Fall 2008 Picks

Well friends, it's that time again. Thankfully, Fall season looks decidedly more interesting than this summer, so I've managed to pull out quite a few things that I'm looking forward to. And here's the list, vaguely ordered from the one I'm most excited about to the one that I'll watch if I get bored.

Skip Beat!
ANN
Yeah okay, so if you didn't see this one coming you don't read this blog very often. I've been a huge Skip Beat! fan for awhile, so I am definitely watching this, and I am definitely blogging this.

ANN | Official Site
Ooh, randomly capitalized letters in random English words. Already very promising. It looked good enough when it seemed to just be a creepy and somewhat supernatural mystery. But if the images at the main site and ANN are any indication, there might be yandere too. That makes it extra special good. I hope someone subs this, since I wager my Japanese might not be able to keep up.

Yozakura Shijuusou ~Yozakura Quartet~
ANN | Official Site (TBS) | Official Site (Kondansha)
So I read the first volume of the manga and liked it. Kids with powers is nothing new, but the kid without powers makes is more interesting. Also, Savage Genius is doing the OP which makes me very excited.

Toradora!
ANN | Official Site
Has tsundere. Will watch.

Hakushaku to Yousei (Count and Fairy)
ANN | Official Site
So the chick in the purple dress is a Fairy Doctor (whatever that means), and then Tamaki Edgar the Knight shows up to get help from her. Also, there's a cool looking dude named Raven and a very fluffy cat named Nico. The plot seems interesting, but I'll mostly be watching this because the three leads will be voiced by Nana Mizuki, Hikaru Midorikawa, and Tomokazu Sugita.

Michiko to Hatchin
ANN | Official Site
This looks like a hit or miss for me. Sexy free-willed divas aren't usually my type, but this one looks like a female version of Mugen (Samurai Champloo) and the little girl looks like she might actually be feisty. It's worth a look.

Stitch!
Official Site
Yeah okay so I never saw the movies or the show or anything. But watching Stitch speak in Japanese is hilarious. Don't expect me to blog this unless something groundbreaking happens.

--> definitely watched this randomly while browsing. i've come across this, but the genres that were always listed included horror.. so i really wasn't to thrilled to watch it when i was really wanting to watch something more joyful... then i read about it being more of a delusion psychological anime and i totally had to watch it. i think that it's amazingly done. i love the real-life references and all the scientific and mathematical stuff that they use for the plot. i really don't think that it has yandere in it... there is a part where there is something like it, but that is revealed as something that is not really seen. the only problem i had with this is that even though alot of the questions were answered.. there were still alot that weren't.. (like what really happened during the "crucifixion" murder scene and more)... but in all it was really good. also, it used a lot of suggestion (like it wouldn't show the killing, it would instead leave it up to imagination on what was happening). also the trauma that all the characters faced was tragic. i did realize that they did play with a new type of main character though. he wasn't the best person, like one who would save the world for everyone's sake... instead he was really a coward, wimpy, and really self-centered... but in the end, i think it was happy.. the only question was.. is that shibuya in the end, the read shibuya or just a delusion...

Michiko to Hatchin
--> this is another anime that i decided to randomly watch. at first i thought that it was going to be about the two finding the father and living together as a big happy family, but as the story went on, i think that the shift from finding the father for both of their own sakes (michiko for her love and hatchin for her father) became to finding him for each other. i really loved the character development and how they showed their involvement with other characters. i didn't like the episode where they met the "stripper" because it was sad on how michiko felt that she couldn't help at all... i did really love the ending, though i really wanted to see how michiko looked like in the end... nevertheless.. i think the two portray two strong women (well hatchin becomes a strong woman thanks to michiko's help). it's amazing and the animation is really good too..
