Skip Beat! Ch. 142 - I can't take it anymore!

The drama never ends! MAN, this author really knows how to drag things out. Kyoko is carrying Reino's chocolates with her when she happens to drop one. Ren and Yashiro both catch sight of it, but Kyoko tells them it wasn't anything. Yashiro noticed that "hatred" was written on it, so he assumes that the chocolate must be for Shou. He's sure that Ren noticed the same thing, and he notices that Ren is having a hard time keeping his composure.

In the meantime, Kyoko is still fuming about having to make chocolates. Reino told her to put all her feelings for him into it, so she wrote things like "anger" and "hatred" on them. While she's busy fuming, she accidentally bumps into Shou who immediately recognizes the box as a box of chocolates. He opens it to find a beagle drawn in it which confirms his suspicions. He grabs Kyoko and asks her if she really loves Reino that much.

I don't know if I can wait for July! Man, this thing just gets more dramatic by the second. First Ren, and now Shou. Fufufufufu. So so so delicious. As much as a Ren vs. Shou confrontation would be wonderful, I'm still hoping to see Shou punch the living daylights out of Reino. That would be sweet, sweet justice. Looks like Ren's not holding up very well without Kyoko's affections. I wonder if he'll confess to her first? Ah, but that's not likely, is it? Kyoko is as naive as ever, taking Reino's request literally and writing her feelings of hatred out for him. She'll make a great wife, but whoever marries her (Ren) will have to be very specific. XD

Code: Breaker - Manga Review

When I first started reading Code: Breaker, I gave it a less than glowing review, frustrated by the repetitive plot and lack of interesting character interaction. I would like to retract that statement now. While the opening arcs remain frustrating, the latest arcs (along with the introduction of new characters) are well worth the read.

Rei is only the sixth of six code:breakers. The introduction of even more, including a rogue code:breaker, definitely makes things more interesting, especially since they have such engaging personalities. Each story arc is more intriguing that the last, all leading up to Rei's showdown with his sworn enemy, who has also collected a group of people with powers know as the re-codes (very clever, I'm sure). While the plot doesn't deviate too much from standard shounen fare (ex-members of the team, a mysterious sworn enemy with his own army, assassination plots), it manages to present the events in a fresh light with decidedly fun characters.

Toki is by far the most amusing of the group, and possibly the deepest, as his carefree manner hides a very serious and troubled past. Yuuki is the most fun (and my current favorite), as he seems to be the only one who doesn't really hide behind another personality. Plus, his obsession with the cartoon character Nyanmaru leads to more than one amusing occasion. Heike remains the weak link in the chain of code:breakers as he seemingly has no personality, motivation, or weakness. Plus, he's really, really creepy with his bondage fetish. Sakura manages to hold her own and becomes decidely less annoying, which is a good thing. The only thing I find weird is how the powers of the code:breakers seem to overlap quite a bit. For instance, the one wielding electricity uses its magnetic properties, making his power similar to the one who wields magnetism. Then the one wielding light uses it in a power socket to connect to a computer, since data is transferred as light. Doesn't that seem a little too close to electricity?

For all its faults, Code:Breaker has actually managed to come out as a series that I thoroughly enjoy. The plot is far from original, but the presentation and the interesting characters are enough to draw me in. Plus, the art remains exceptionally solid, and that's always a good thing.

Skip Beat! Ch. 141 - The Night Before

Soooo close! And more delicious drama abounds. Shou is still distraught at the thought of Kyoko and Reino together, and talking with his manager only confirms his suspicion that the two are secretly dating. He's especially angry because he thinks Ren is better suited as a rival and he can't understand why Kyoko would go for someone like Reino.

Meanwhile, it's revealed that Reino has kidnapped one of Kyoko's dark spirits and his holding it ransom for Valentine's day chocolates. Kyoko and Moko are working on their chocolates together. Even though Kyoko doesn't care about Reino at all, she knows that if she doesn't make good chocolates for him, he won't return her spirit. Moko wonders why Kyoko isn't going to give Ren any chocolate, but Kyoko says he probably wouldn't want them anyway. Moko realizes that Ren is in love with Kyoko, and she wonders if he'll really be okay with being the only person not getting chocolate from her. She resolves to confront Kyoko in the morning, but Kyoko has work early and has already left by the time Moko wakes up.

So we finally get to see how Reino managed to blackmail Kyoko into making chocolates! He stole one of her dark spirits. How terrible. I hope Shou punches him in the face multiple times. Seriously. It would be pretty sweet. Shou's insanity and depression over the thought of Kyoko with someone else is kinda cute. I'd almost cheer for him, but he had his chance. I had previously been hoping that Moko would talk some sense into Kyoko, but it seems like although she tried, Kyoko just brushed it off. Curses! Moko, you have to call her or something! Kyoko, you have to come to your senses! Give Ren chocolate, or you'll regret it forever! Unless, of course, it leads to a nice dramatic apology and confession scene. :D

Man, I can't wait. Every chapter brings a little bit more goodness and a whole lot more suspense. Just let it happen already!

A-KON 20 Report 02 - Fresh to Death New

Because cosplayers are all about cutting edge and first in. Okay, not really. But still. With something as big as A-KON, you're bound to run into a few crazy people who are cosplaying from something that's currently airing in Japan.

Like this fellow, who was happy to learn that someone else does, in fact, watch Sengoku Basara.

Okay, using Shugo Chara is a kinda cheatish, since it's been airing for awhile. I might as well claim that Bleach falls under the same category. But I won't. Besides, there aren't enough Shugo Chara cosplayers out there, anyway.

The Yoru plushie was really super cute. I saw an Ikuto cosplayer Saturday night, but I didn't have my camera with me. Curses!

This kid was like the cutest Tadase-kun in the world. @_@

I was all O: O: O: O: when I saw these girls. I'm surprised the picture isn't too blurry, since I was all excited and all when I took the picture. XD

And I'll round it out with some video of some Mio cosplayer singing "Don't say Lazy," vaguely in tune (::cough::that'sme::cough::)

A-KON 20 Report 01 - Nifty Cosplay

Last weekend was A-KON 20, and I had the pleasure of attending. As usual, I spent most of my time running around snapping pictures of cosplayers. Here are a few that I found to have particularly impressive construction:

Mushrooms from Disney's Fantasia (thanks yafurichao). They're crazy cute.

Gilgamesh. According to him, he worked on this in a bar.

A huge crowd of people followed these guys all over the place. Any time they stopped for even a moment, they were swarmed by people snapping pictures.

Totoro is always win.
